Monoclonal Antibodies Flashcards
What are monoclonal antibodies?
Antibodies produced from a single clone of B cells, all identical and specific to one antigen.
How are monoclonal antibodies made (Short version) ?
By fusing a B cell with a tumor cell to create a hybridoma that produces the desired antibody.
True or False: Monoclonal antibodies are all identical and specific to one antigen.
True
Fill in the blank: Monoclonal antibodies are produced from a single clone of _____ cells.
B
True or False: Monoclonal antibodies can only target cancer cells.
False
What is the significance of monoclonal antibodies in infectious disease research?
They can identify and neutralize pathogens like viruses or bacteria.
How do you make a monoclonal antibody ?
- Inject antigen into the mouse so that the antibody you will produce will be specific to the disease
- Then extract the lymphocyte from the mouse
- Fuse the lymphocyte with a tumour cell
- Then that will create the hybridoma
- Then you can clone the hybridoma antibodies produced
