Benefits of monoclonal Abs?
A
- Bind to free IgE, decreasing cell-bound IgE.
- Decrease expression of high-affinity receptors
- Decrease mediator release
- Decrease allergic inflammation & prevents exacerbation of asthma and reduces sx

Omalizumab
A
- Anti-IgE Ab indicated for moderate to severe persistent asthma in pts 6+ w/ a + skin test or in vitro reactivity to a perennial aeroallergen and sx that are inadequately controlled with ICS
- Also indicated in trx for chronic idiopathic urticaria in pts 12+ who remain symptomatic despite H1 antihistamine trx.
- ANAPHYLAXIS: Administer only in a healthcare setting prepared to manage anaphylaxis that can be life-threatening and observe pts for an appropriate amount of time after administration.
