Benefits of monoclonal Abs?

  1. Bind to free IgE, decreasing cell-bound IgE.
  2. Decrease expression of high-affinity receptors
  3. Decrease mediator release
  4. Decrease allergic inflammation & prevents exacerbation of asthma and reduces sx

Omalizumab

A
  • Anti-IgE Ab indicated for moderate to severe persistent asthma in pts 6+ w/ a + skin test or in vitro reactivity to a perennial aeroallergen and sx that are inadequately controlled with ICS
  • Also indicated in trx for chronic idiopathic urticaria in pts 12+ who remain symptomatic despite H1 antihistamine trx.
  • ANAPHYLAXIS: Administer only in a healthcare setting prepared to manage anaphylaxis that can be life-threatening and observe pts for an appropriate amount of time after administration.
