Monitored and unmonitored alarm attendance Flashcards
What does FDAS stand for?
Fire Detection Alarm System
Process for an unwanted “false alarm” activation? i.e. caused by cooking fumes, construction activity, etc?
The zone/actuating device will be reset.
Make sure it will not activate again by ventilating the room and removing any smoke
After investigation if the alarm activation cannot be determined, or it appears to be a system fault, what is the process on the FIP?
The zone/actuating device will be isolated. Building management is to be notified of the isolation. (Alarm can then only be reset after alarm technician has carried out a check on the FDAS. This is building managements responsibility)
What is the responsibility of the owner/occupier/on-site manager for an isolated zone in the event of a fire?
Notify all occupants within the isolated zone,
Occupants must call 000,
Commence evacuation in accordance with the Fire Evacuation Plan (FEP) for the building.
Contact fire technician to correct isolation
What is the OIC responsibility in the absence of owner/occupier/on-site manager for an isolated alarm?
Notify occupants:
- that alarm has been isolated
- Inform on the area/location/zone that has been isolated
- Inform that the system will not automatically detect and warn
signs of fire.
- Occupants must call 000
- The OIC is to notify Firecom if no owner/occupier was in
attendance and that occupants were provided with a verbal brief
on actions to undertake in the event of a fire.
- Owner/occupier is to be notified of the isolation in person or via
phone by the OIC or by Firecom at the time of attendance or ASAP.
- OIC will communicate relevant information regarding condition of
the alarm e.g., section isolated to Firecom prior to departing the
premises.
Who is responsible for ensuring the alarm system is restored to its full function.
Building management
How long before alarm system needs to be investigated and reinstated to full operation by an alarm technician in buildings with sleeping accommodation?
4 hours
All other buildings are 24 hours.
How does QFES record our attendance to a FDAS?
QFES staff will record details of attendance to their FDAS by completing form OM 015 - Notification of Fire Alarm Attendance Record.
A copy of this will be left with owner/occupier, security or placed in the FIP. We also keep a copy for our filling at relevant stations.
What details will be recorded on alarm attendance record?
Unit number
Address
Detector location
Level
Zone
Building name or identity
Cause of alarm
Actions taken
Steps at a local alarm (unmonitored FDAS)? If no signs of smoke or fire and no reason for activation?
Notify Firecom
Notify the owner/occupier/on-site manager either in person or via phone by OIC or Firecom prior to departing the premises or ASAP after leaving.
OIC will pass on relevant information to firecom prior to departing.
When can occupants be instructed by FRS staff to establish communications through SSISEP?
- If they have difficulties evacuating the building due to injury or
mobility issue. - If HAZMAT incidents prohibit their evacuation.
- If they are in a high security environment.
- To direct occupants to shelter in place with instructions such as
keeping doors and windows closed. - Setting air-conditioning to recycle.
- FRS are to use SSISEP to communicate an “all clear” to occupants to the building if appropriate.
What does SSISEP stand for?
Sound Systems Intercom Systems for Emergency Procedures.
What needs to be done for malicious/false alarms and activation of MCP/Fire detection system? (Repeat false alarms to an address)
Requires the OIC to submit a report to the relevant senior officer indicating - number of calls, dates, times and location.
A copy of this will be sent to FIU.
