Monday Kwywords Flashcards
What’s a dependent variable
A veriable measured by the psychologist eg:numbers in a sequence
What’s an independent variable
A variable manipulated by the experimentor eg: age of participants doing a puzzle
What’s a hypothesis
A theory about the outcome of a experiment eg: Logan will get 0 bitches
Non directional hypothesis
A hypothesis that states they’re will be a change in outcomes but not in a particular direction
Directional hypothesis
A hypothesis which predicts the direction of an outcome eg: Logan will get some bitches
Null hypothesis
A prediction that nothing will happen and any results are due to chance eg: there will be no difference in time for a 70 year old and a 12 year old to do something
Reliability
How consistent something eg: a 12 year old does a jigsaw in the same amount of time every time
Internal validity
Measures what it claims too eg an iq test tests iq
External validity
If the finding can be generalized beyond the study eg: if all 12 year olds do a jigsaw at the same time
Repeated measures design
A participant participated in all conditions of the design eg they do a easy and hard jigsaw
Matched pairs design
Participants are matched with similar people and take part in one condition each
Independent group design
One participant does one and they aren’t matched
Order effects
A participant takes part in more than one rmd and have already performed the task so have varied results
Field experiment
An experiment in a natural environment
Lab experiment
An experiment in a controlled artificial environment
