Momentum And Impulse Flashcards
What is velocity
Velocity is the rate of change in displacement
Momentum
The product of mass and its velocity
What is a system ??
It is a collection of objects that interact with each other
What is an isolated system
An isolated system is a system that does not interact with its surroundings and therefore no external force acts on it
Law of conservation of momentum
In an isolated system the total linear momentum is conserved in both magnitude and direction.
Head on collision
It is a collision in which the two objects collide and result to having one final velocity
An explosion collision
Is a collision where the initial velocity of the two objects are the same and after the collision they separate
Newtons first law
an object remains at rest or uniform motion unless a net force of an unbalanced external force acts on it
Law of inertia
The tendency for the ability an object to maintain the state of rest is called inertia
Importance of a sit belt
It ensure the safety and maintains the inertia of the object when the acceleration is increases due to increased net force
Newtons second law
When a net force is exerted on an object, the object accelerates in the direction of the force. The acceleration is directly proportional to the net-force and inversely proportional to the mass.
Newtons second law interns of momentum
The net external force equals the change in momentum of a system, divided by the time over which it changes.
Inelastic collision
A collision in which kinetic energy is not conserved
Elastic collision
A collision in which kinetic energy is conserved
Kinetic energy
The energy that an object have as a result of its motion
