Momentum Flashcards
1
Q
What is F = ma in terms of momentum?
A
F = Δ(mv)/Δt
2
Q
Describe the relationship between the resultant force on a body and its momentum.
A
The rate of change of momentum of an object is equal to the resultant force acting on that object and takes place in the direction of that resultant force.
3
Q
Define Impulse.
A
Impulse is change in momentum. (FΔt = Δ(mv))
4
Q
What is the significance of the area beneath a Force-Time graph?
A
It is equal to the change in momentum (i.e. impulse).
5
Q
Define Momentum.
A
The Momentum of an object is the product of its mass and velocity.
(p=mv)
