Moments Flashcards
Principle of Moments
What is the Principal of Moments?
The sum of the clockwise moments is equal to the sum of the anticlockwise moments when a system is in equilibrium
Define the moment of a force about a point
The product of the force × the perpendicular distance from the line of action
Define the moment of a couple
The force × perpendicular distance between the two forces
Define a Couple
A pair of equal and opposite forces acting on an object along different lines
Define Centre of Mass
The point that indicates the average position of all of the matter in a body
Or
The point through which all of the weight of the object acts
What does the gradient under a displacement-time graph represent?
Velocity
What does the gradient of a velocity-time graph represent?
