Moles Flashcards
Empirical formula
The simplest whole number ratio of atoms of each element in a molecule.
Molecular formula
The actual number of atoms of each element in a compound.
Amount of substance
The quantity whose unit of the mole, used as a means of counting any species.
Mole
The amount of any substance combining as many elementary particles as there are carbon atoms in exactly 12g of the carbon-12 isotope, that is 6.02X10^23
Avogadro constant
The number of atoms per mole of the carbon-12 isotope, that is 6.02X10^23
Molar mass
The mass per mile of a substance, in units gmol^-1
Anhydrous
Containing no water molecules
Hydrated
A crystalline compound containing water molecules
Water of crystallisation
Water molecule that are bound into the crystalline structure of a compound
Percentage error =
