Molecules Vocabulary Flashcards
Molecule
Two or more atoms bonded together
Chemical bond
Connection between atoms
Model
Representation of an object
Chemical formula
The atoms (letters and numbers) that make up a molecule
Chemical structure
The specific way the atoms are arranged
Crystal
Structure of atoms or molecules in a 3D pattern
Polymer
Structure of molecules in a repeating chain pattern
Extended structure
A molecule whose atoms occurs in a constant radio and repeating pattern
Ratio
A quantity relationship between two things
What are two differences between crystals and polymers?
- Structure
- Elements
C3H4 has how many elements? Atoms?
Two elements; seven atoms
What is an element?
It is a pure substance.
What is an atom?
An atom is the smallest participle in the world.
What is a molecule?
A molecule is two or more atoms bonded together.
When making molecule models, what do the beads represent? The sticks?
The beads represent atoms and the sticks represent the chemical bonds.
Can you have two different crystals that are made of the same atom? Give an example. How is it the same? How is it different?
Yes you can, one example is diamond and graphite. One thing that is the same is the atoms and one thing that is different is the structures.
