What is a Response?
Any identifiable behavior.
What is an Antecedent?
Events that precede a response.
What is a Consequence?
Effect that follows a response.
What is a cognitive map?
Mental representation of an area or concept.
What is a neutral stimulus?
A stimulus that has no direct relationship with a behavior or response.
What is an unconditioned response?
A response that is not learned.
What is a conditioned stimulus?
A stimulus that was once unconditioned, now has a direct relationship with a behavior or response.
What is a conditioned response?
A response that now has a direct relationship with a stimulus.
What is spontaneous recovery?
Reappearance of a learned response following extinction.
What is a conditional emotional response?
Learned emotional reaction to a previously neutral stimulus. (amygdala)
What is the law of effect?
The probability of a response is altered by the effect it has.
What is Positive Reinforcement?
When a response is followed by a pleasant or desirable event that increases responding.
What is Negative reinforcement?
When a response is followed by the removal of an unpleasant event that increases responding. (taking aspirin)
What is punishment?
Any event that follows a response with an aversive consequence and decreases the likelihood of it recurring.
