What is the cockpit drill
A number of safety checks carried out as soon as you enter your vehicle
What is the first thing you check when you enter the vehicle and how
That all the doors are closed properly - pull to see if door rattles or check warning sign on dashboard or interior lights may stay on
What do you check after doors are all closed
Check the hand break is applied by making sure it is pulled up - ensures vehicle is safe and secure while you carry out your other safety checks
What do you do after you have checked your handbrake
Adjust your seat to the best driving position
What are the three parts to your seat
The base
The back rest / rake
The head restraint
What should the correct height of your base be
When sitting your eyes should be level with the centre of the wind screen
How should your base be positioned
So you can reach the foot controls comfortably
How do you check the back rest is positioned correctly
When your back is against the seat and hands are holding to wheel at a 10 to 2 position, there should be a slight bend in your arms
How do you know your head rest is positioned correctly
When the rigid/centre part of the head rest is level with your eyes or the top of your ears
What do you check after adjusting your seat
Check that your steering wheel is at the correct position
How do you check your steering wheel
- Hands should be able to slide up and down the wheel without any obstructions
- The wheel also shouldn’t be obstructing the view of the dash panel
After checking your steering wheel , what do you do
Fasten your seat belt , ensuring there are no twists in the belt and pull on it to check that it is secure
When is the driver responsible for passengers
When passengers are under the age of 14
