Example: Blackwater Estuary
Space
Scale: Between local and global
Boundaries: Natural and Political and administrative.
Transboundary: environmental processes cross natural boundaries.
Distance: separate spaces.
Risk
Probability that a hazard will occur X severity of the hazard
Uncertainty
A lack of knowledge makes it difficult to plan for risk managment
Power
Relation between people
Governmental power: comes from the resources it commands.
Business power: comes from assets it controls and sells.
Media power: Ability to set agendas and ideas that others accept.
How does power and discourse relate?
Language that others use when communicating to people to influence how they see the world.
Values
Something of worth, merit and importance to someone.
Agency
The difference that a social actor can make to the world.
