Time Quotes

PRUFROCK:
- The metaphor of “and time for all the works and days of hands” motif of time.
- Repetition of “There will be time,” time is neverending, life is finite.
PRELUDES:
- “With the other masquerades/ That time resumes,” Eliot criticises how humans shape their lives around an illusion; clock.
- The motif of age in the lexical chain of “burnt-out,” “withered,” and “broken.”
RHAPSODY:
- The moon is personified as a woman in “the moon has lost her memory.” Death is inevitable.
- Dichotomous relationship between moon and lamp shows romanticism dying, and modernism taking over respectively.
HOLLOW MEN:
- “Life is very long/ Between the desire?And the spasm/Between the potency/And the existence,” Time seems to go on infinitely in a state of desolation and despair.
- The repetition of “This is the way the world ends.”
