Module 9 Flashcards
What are nerves
Nerves are neuron bundles, basically groups of neurons/axons.
They provide connections between nervous systems.
Where are the axons?
They are grouped in neuron fascicles in the nerve and also there are supplied blood by blood vessels - important for nutirition support and removing waste
In humans the Central Nervous System consists of
Brain and Spinal Cord
True or False:
Neurons provide connections within CNS (Central Nervous System) and provide connections within PNS (Peripheral Nervous System) and provides connection between the CNS and PNS
True
In humans the Peripheral Nervous System consists of
All nerves except for the brain and spinal cord
Afferent branches send internal and external stimuli to …
Central Nervous System and Brain
Efferent branches send signals to …
Peripheral Nervous System from the CNS
Can be autonomic or somatic
Autonomic means
without conscious control
Somatic means
with conscious control
True or False: Parasympathetic and Sympathetic Nervous systems are both autonomic
True
Parasympathetic Nervous System
Rest and Digest
-Constricts pupil and bronchi
-Stimulates digestion, salivation and bile secretion
-Slows heart rate
-Causes bladder to contract
Sympathetic Nervous System
Fight or Flight
-Dilates pupil and bronchi
-Inhibits salivation, digestion and contraction of bladder
-Increases heart rate
-Stimulates the breakdown of glycogen
-Stimulates secretion of adrenaline and noradrenaline
Neurotransmitters for Sympathetic Nervous System
Acetylcholine and Norepinephrine
Neurotransmitters for Parasympathetic Nervous System
Acetylcholine and/or nitric oxide transmitters
Nerves from the base of the brain are
cranial nerves
