Module 9-10 Mixed and Indigenous Methods Flashcards
What is the OCAP principle? Where does it come from?
Ownership, possession, control, access
What are the four principles of the indigenous approach?
relationship
respect
reciprocity
accountability
What is the first step if you are interested in indigenous research?
Get in touch with an indigenous scholar, and uni research ethics board
What is something that Dr. Horn-Miller suggests if you are trying to
think of what you might want to give back to the community who
you engage in research with?
Food
What are the three different types of mix-methods research?
Convergent
Exploratory sequential
Explanatory sequential
When to use Convergent mix-methods research?
When you want convergent evidence- do both at the same time
When to use Exploratory sequential mix-methods research?
when you don’t know a lot about the topic: first qualitative, then use qualitative to build quantitative method
When to use Explanatory sequential mix-methods research?
When you know a lot and try to explain- first quantitative, then followed by qualitative to explain the quantitative finding
Why is mixed-method used?
When more than one method is needed -i.e. Exploratory sequential or explanatory sequential
When one data point is not sufficient- ie. convergent evidence
Exploratory research needs to be generalized- Exploratory sequential
One data source may be insufficient
A second method is needed to enhance a primary method
A theoretical stance needs to be employed
f) An overall research objective can be best addressed with multiple
phases or projects
When to use simulation research?
Student practicum-(pedagogical) Clinical settings
Research treatment
As a research design
What is the advantage of convergent method?
Can compare two data points and analysis
If your research used actors portraying clients with the intent to study the behaviours among social workers in responding to certain
scenarios, you would mainly be using what type of research design?
Simulation
