Module 8 Flashcards
factor
any discrete categorical variable
Primary or focal independent variable
When a study has two or more IVs it is usually helpful to determine which is the primary or focal IV
Moderator
the second independent variable may moderate the effect of the primary independent variable - often called a moderator
Population model
represent how two independent variables combine to explain individual differences in the dependent variable
Main effects model
for the dependent variable as a function of the two independent variables
the dependent variable is an additive function of the predictors - the effects of the dummy variables are simply added together to explain the dependent variable
Intercept in a main effects model
Intercept parameter corresponds to the model-implied or predicted population mean for participants in the (iv reference category) who (dependent reference category)
