Q

It is important to know the vocation and activities of the deceased in order to achieve a faithful natural looking complexion color.
While it is true that true complexion is often distorted by the pallor of death,
a few inquiries from the family regarding the employment and recreational activities of the deceased can help in the assessment of the true complexion of the deceased.

Exposure to sunlight causes skin melanin levels to increase, thus a cyclist would usually have the sun-browned complexion while a banker who spends a lot of time in the office and who does not have outdoor activities will have a fairer complexion tone

Q

The age of an individual is a significant element in determining complexion color.
The process of aging modifies the skin color, skin texture and the configuration of facial tissues.
Aging also changes feature contours, causes wrinkles, and accents the prominence of cheekbones, brows, and jawbones.

In contrast, infants display a fresh, vibrant red-pink color.
Changes occur at about the age of 2, when the skin takes on aura of brown tones
Hereditary factors will also contribute in the changes of complexion which usually happens at the age of 6.

Q

Orange or red pigment is suspended in a water-alcohol solution,
They combine ultra-thin consistency with fast evaporation.
They are usually used as a based color for the face and hands when no restorative or special treatments involving opaque cosmetics are required.
They are compounded to simulate the basic natural coloring of the body.

The disadvantage of alcohol-based cosmetic solutions is their tendency to dehydrate the delicate surfaces around the eyelids and lips due to their volatility and rapid evaporation

A

Transparent Liquid Tints

21
Q

Talc and clay base suspended in a water-alcohol solution combined with humectant,
which helps the powder to adhere to the cosmetized surface in a very thin, delicate, and barely visible matte film.
It’s tonal values available are usually confined to shades of red, but in a much wider range than is offered by the transparent liquids.
When totally dry, they leave a smooth non-reflecting finish on the epidermal surface with the pores visible.
____________ tend to dry to a lighter tonal value than their counterparts in the transparent liquids

A

Liquid Powder Tints

22
Q

It is compounded with oil base similar to that used in cosmetic massage cream.
One important difference however is that tinted emollient creams are totally free of zinc stearate which gives cosmetic massage cream its characteristic of cloudy white color.
This cosmetic becomes transparent when applied lightly over the skin surface, allowing the natural complexion to show through, imparting a delicate low.
These tinted creams are excellent basic complexion colors and retard dehydration of the skin.

A

Tinted Emollient Cream

23
Q

This cosmetic is virtually similar to that of tinted emollient cream except that they are more opaque.
It tends to allow less of the natural complexion to show through and reduce the conspicuousness of light colored blemishes and mask the unsightly putty-grey pallor of the face and hands,
without creating a total blanket of artificial colors.
It allows just enough of the natural undertones to show through to give the illusion of normal skin coloring.

A

Semi Opaque Emollient Cream

24
Q

This is a heavily pigmented oil-based cosmetic, primarily used to completely mask unsightly blemishes, discolorations, and restored surfaces on the face and hands.
Although the objective is to conceal imperfections, it is equally important to avoid an artificial, overly made-up appearance.
Works well over restored surfaces and are compatible with almost all other cosmetic media.
Light applications yield greater transparency, and can be used as a base cosmetic when applied very lightly.
It is available in soft and firm base consistencies.

A

Opaque Cream

25
Q

Normally formulated with a resin base and commonly used by many, the drying time is about 10 minutes.
Once it’s totally dried, it will seal the epidermal surface and not rub off, and it also retards dehydration very effectively.

A

Liquid Opaque

26
Q

There are two types of aerosol spray cosmetics available for mortuary use:
transparent cosmetic spray and opaque pigmented spray.

The transparent aerosol sprays *a used as a basic complexion colorant *.
The opaque pigmented aerosol is used for covering discolorations, restored surfaces, and total masking (undercoating) procedures on the face, arms and hands.

A

Spray and Airbrush Cosmetics

27
Q

This cosmetic has a special smooth-textured consistency enabling them to be applied with great ease and precision control.
They are evenly smoothed on the skin from a small portion in the palm of the hand by stipple brush or fingertip application techniques.

Because of the intensity of the reds in soft paste rouges, they should be applied very sparingly.
This type of cosmetic is used when a stronger color accents are required to produce natural-looking rouging effects on female subjects.
It also proved to be extremely useful when accenting the warm color after the cosmetic application has been completed
(ex.: commercial lipsticks and eyeliners)

A

Soft paste

28
Q

_________ maybe safely used over other warm color cosmetic media to intensify color after the cosmetic treatment has been completed and dried with white drying powder.
The application procedure that is found to be the most effective consist of stippling on the cake compound with a soft camel hair brush, it can also be made with a powder puff or damp sponge.

A

Cake Cosmetics

29
Q

Transparent and opaque cosmetics should be brush applied and dispensed directly from the container.

For brush application treatments, the liquid cosmetic medium is applied in short straight strokes confined to a small area.
Immediately after the application, the liquid cosmetic should either be blotted with a gauze pad or brushed out over the surface and blended such that there is no line of demarcation visible.
This should be done very quickly because the vehicle in which pigment is suspended evaporates almost immediately, limiting the time for distribution.

The blotting and brush application procedures ensure uniform distribution of color, preventing streaking and blotchy patches of uneven color.
