Module 5 - Section 1 [Projectile Motion] Flashcards
Describe stroboscope
A stroboscope is an instrument used to make a cyclically moving object appear to be slow-moving, or stationary
Define frame of reference
Frame of reference is an abstract coordinate system whose origin, orientation, and scale are specified by a set of reference points
Recall Galileo’s contribution to projectile motion
Galilean Theory of Motion:
- Motion can be separated into independent components – horizontal and vertical
- Horizontal component experiences no acceleration; constant horizontal velocity
- Vertical component experiences constant acceleration – gravitational force
Recall inherent assumptions when dealing with projectile motion
Inherent Assumptions:
- Air resistance is negligible
- The curvature of the Earth is negligible
Recall properties of projectile motion
Properties:
- Forms a parabolic trajectory –> symmetric
- Zero velocity at turning points –> Maximum and minimum heights
