Module 5 Flashcards
Entropy
A measure of the disorder that exists in any system.
Molarity (M)
A concentration unit that tells us how many moles of a substance are in a liter of solution. It is determined by taking the number of moles of a substance and dividing by the number of liters of solution.
Molality (m)
The number of moles of solute per kilogram of solvent.
Mole Fraction
The number of moles of a given component in a mixture divided by the total number of moles in the mixture.
When the solute-solvent attraction is greater than the solute-solute attraction and the solvent-solvent attraction,
the solute dissolves exothermically.
Ideal Solution
solution formed with no accompanying energy change.
When the solute-solvent attraction is lower than the solute-solute and solvent-solvent attraction,
the solute dissolves endothermically.
