Module 4: Reverberation Time Flashcards
1
Q
Reverberation Time (RT) is the time it
takes for reflected sound to die down
by __ dB from the instant that the
sound signal ceases.
A
60
2
Q
RT is measured in seconds.
A
RT60
3
Q
The effectiveness of any material as a sound absorber can be expressed by its ____
A
absorption coefficient
4
Q
Materials having high sound absorption coefficients (greater than 2.0) are referred to as _____; while those with low coefficients are ____.
A
Sound absorbing; sound reflecting
5
Q
Steps on how determine RT of a room
A
- Identify and list all the materials/finishes of each surface inside the room
- Compute the surface area for each material
- Identify the absorption coefficient of each material
- For each material, multiply its surface area by its absorption coefficient. = sabins
- Total all the sabins
- Compute RT using formula
- Give assessments
- Make necessary changes until desirable reverberation time is achieved.
