Q

What diseases are COPD an umbrella term of?

A
  1. Emphysema = complete destruction of lung tissue
  2. Bronchioolitis = inflammation of small airway
  3. Chronic Bronchitis = overproduction of mucus
17
Q

what is the whole-of-life disease trajectories?

A

injury to lungs early in life = increase COPD risk
* air pollution, social disadvantages, environmental factors

18
Q

how irreversible changes in lung structure cause airflow limitation, how this is worsened by inflammation

A
  • destruction of lung tissue in ddep lung = elastic fibres broken down = during expiration small airways collapse = inspiration they open due to physical forces = easily collapse in expiration = easy to get air in but not out
  • starts at the smallest airway - destruction
  • flow of air through small tubes
  • loss of surface area for gas exchange
19
Q

how this pathobiology relates to bronchodilator therapy and its limitations

A
20
Q

the important role of infection and recurrent exacerbations and effects of treatments

A
