MODULE 4: Ecosystems dynamic Flashcards
Ecosystems definition
The foundation of the biosphere (living things)
Abiotic Factors
Non-living chemical and physical parts of the environment that affect living organisms and the functioning of ecosystems
What’s Buoyancy and Viscosity - Abiotic factors
Buoyancy: the ability to float
Viscosity: denseness, thickness
Temperature
measurement - thermometer
units - degrees Celsius
Wind speed
measurement - anemometer
units - Km/h or knots
Humidity
measurement - wet and dry bulb hygrometer
units - %
Light intensity
measurement - photoelectric meter
units - Lux
PH
measurement - universal indicator liquid or paper
units - chart is needed
Salinity
measurement - refractometer
units - parts per thousand
Biotic Factors
Living influences on where an organism lives
Ecological relationships - Predation
a predator (an organism that is hunting) feeds on its prey (the organism that is attracted).
If predators thrive it can essentially wipe out a prey population
Ecological relationships - competition
Infraspecific: Members of the same species compete for limited resources
Interspecific: Members of different species compete for shared resources
Symbiotic relationships are
Any type of close and long-term biological interaction between two different organisms.
Three types of symbiosis relationships:
Mutualism: both species benefit
Commensalism: one species benefit, the other is unaffected
Parasitism: one species benefits, the other is harmed
Food webs
