Module 4: Confidence Intervals and Hypothesis Testing Flashcards
1
Q
Standard Error
A
- Measures how accurately a sample distribution represents the population
- Ex: Sample mean deviates from the actual mean, the difference is the standard error
2
Q
Confidence Interval
A
- The probability that a population parameter will fall between a set of values
- Ex: Data from 100 schools, CI of 90% of the means from those school will fall between the CI values
3
Q
Null Hypothesis
A
-Tests that nothing happens
H sub 0
4
Q
Alternate Hypothesis
A
- Test that something happens
- H sub a
5
Q
P-value
A
- The probability of obtaining results at least as extreme as the observed results of a statistical hypothesis test
- If it’s less than 5% null hypothesis is rejected
