Force
A push or pull exerted on an object in an effort to chance the objects velocity.
Simple Machine
A device that either multiplies or redirects a force
Mechanical advantage
The amount by which five or motion if magnified in a simple machine.
Diameter
The length of a straight line that travels from one side of the circle to another and passes through the center of the circle.
Circumference
The distance around a circle, equal to 3.1416 times the circle’s diameter
Life science
A term that encompasses all scientific pursuits related to living organisms
Archaeology
The study of past human life revealed by preserved relics
Artifacts
Objects made by people, such as tools, weapons, containers, ect.
Geology
The study of earths history as revealed in the rocks that make up the earth
Paleontology
The study of life’s history revealed in the preserved remains of once-living organisms
Aristotle’s dictum
The benefit of the doubt is to be given to document itself, not assigned by the critic to himself
Known age
The age of an artifact as determined by a date printed on it or a reference to the artifact in a work of history
Dendrochronology
The process of counting tree rings to determine the age of a tree
Radiometric dating
Using radioactive process to determine the age of an item
Absolute age
The calculated age of an artifact from a specific dating method that is used to deter main when an artifact was made
The Principle of Superposition
When artifacts are found in rock or earth that is layered, the deeper the layers hold the older the artifacts.
