what is TWEAK screening tool used for ?
what does TWEAK stand for?
Used to screen nonpregnant women for problems with alcohol use.
Tolerance, Worried, Eye-opener, Amnesia, Cut down
what are some Fetal alcohol syndrome disorder characteristic?
Abnormal facial features (small eyes, smooth philtrum, think upper lip)
head circumference less than 3rd percentile
small for weight and height
seizure disorder
poor coordination
hyperactive behavior
difficulty with attention and school
learning disability
poor reasoning, judgment, planning, organizational skills sleep and sucking problems as infant
what is philtrum?
this is the vertical groove between the nose and upper lip
what are presumptive signs of pregnancy?
amenorrhea
breast tenderness or enlargement
nausea/vomiting
quickening
fatigue
hyperpigmentation of skin
cholasma
linea nigra
what is quickening
perception of fetal movement
what is goodell’s sign?
softening of cervix
what is chadwick’s sign?
blue/purple color of vaginal mucosa
what is hegar’s sign?
softening of the isthmus of uterus
what is ballottment?
a technique of feeling for a moveable object in the body by feeling the rebound of the fetus following a quick digital tap on the wall of the uterus
what is mcdonald’s rule?
between 18 and 32 weeks, there is good correlation between fundal height and gestational age of the fetus.
when can you perform a leopold’s maneuver?
at 35 weeks
what are common discomforts in the first trimester?
nausea/vomiting
constipation (any time)
leukorrhea
nasal congestion/epistaxis
urinary frequency
what are common discomforts in the 2nd and 3rd trimester?
ankle edema
backache
heart burn
hemorrhoids
leg cramps
round ligament pain
urinary frequency
varicose veins
what are danger signs of pregnancy?
any vaginal bleeding
swelling of face or fingers
severe continuous headache
dimness or blurry vision
abdominal or epigastric pain
persistent vomiting
chills or fever
escape of fluid from vagina
marked change in frequency or intensity of fetal movement
