What is the goal of Canada’s Healthcare System?
Their goal is to provide all Canadian citizens and PR access from medically needs, hospitals and physicians services
What does publicly funded means?
It means it comes from us, taxes
What does privately delivered means?
Acts as an independent company for every provider

Federal and provincial governments
Federal agencies
Healthcare institutions
Healthcare professionals
Who pays for the healthcare for everyone?
The federal government gathers everyone’s taxes from everyone and they give it to provincial governments yearly to transfer money to the healthcare system
Who pays for the medical necessary services ?
Medical necessary services can be paid for in 3 ways
• Provincial plan
• Private plan
• Federal Government
What is medical necessary services?
They are medically necessary hospital, physicians, nursing, and lab and diagnosis services
What is the main payer of the medical necessary services?
The provincial plan
What is the role of private health insurance
Helps you cover the payment when your new to canada (less than 3 months before getting ohip card)
What does private health insurance do?
The insurance will pay for medical necessary services during the wait period
After the wait period:
Pay for services that are not paid for by the provincial government like dental care and vision care
Will pay for any part that is not covered by provincial government
What does Federal government do?
They provide the medical necessary services for the army
What are the 2 sources of fund?
Public sector and private sector
What is a public sector?
It comes from tax dollar money. The province pay more for the healthcare system
What is private sector?
Money that comes out from pocket or if you have a private insurance (3rd party)
