Q

How can a fixed mindset negatively impact your life?

A

It limits your potential. If you believe your aptitudes are set, there is no reason to try to improve. Fear of failure can keep you from discovering new things that you might enjoy learn from.

Q

What happened in the experiment where teachers praise some of their students for effort and others for ability?

A

Praising ability pushed kids into a fixed mindset, and they no longer wanted to attempt new challenges. Praising efforts promoted a growth mindset where kids sought out new challenges. They viewed failure as an indicator they could improve instead of confirming they were inadequate.
