Module 3 - Forces And Motion Flashcards
What does the gradient show on a displacement/time graph?
Velocity
What does the gradient show on a velocity/time graph?
Acceleration
What does the area under the line show on a velocity/time graph?
Displacement
What is the stopping distance?
The total distance from when the driver sees a reason to stop, to when the vehicle stops.
What is the thinking distance?
The distance travelled between when the driver sees a reason to stop, to when the brakes are applied.
What is the braking distance?
The distance travelled from the time the brake is applied until the vehicle stops.
Equation for thinking distance
Speed x reaction time
Value for g
9.81
Moment of a force
moment = Force x perpendicular distance
Principle of moments
For a body in rotational equilibrium, the sum of the clockwise moments is equal to the sum of the anti-clockwise moments.
What is a couple?
A pair of equal, but opposite forces acting on an object. They must be parallel.
Torque of a couple
One of the forces of the couple x perpendicular separation.
Work done at an angle to motion
W = Fxcosθ
