Module 3 Flashcards
Unit rate
A rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit
Ratio
A comparison of two quantities by division.
Equivalent ratios
Ratios that name the same comparison
Constant
A value that does not change
Proportion
An equation that states that two ratios are equivalent
Rate
A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units
Rates of change
A ratio that compares the amount of change in the dependent variable to them our change in the independent variable
Dependent variable
The output of a function: a variable whose value depends on the value the input variables
Independent variable
The input of a function; available his values determines the value of the output variable
Constant proportionality
The constant ratio between the two quantities
Constant of variation
The constant K in direct variation equations
Proportional relationship
A relationship between two quantities in which the ratio of one quantity to the other quantity is constant
Slope
A measure of the steepness of the one on a graph; the rise divided by the run
Direct variation
A relationship written as Y equals KX, where the data increases or decreases together at a constant rate
Linear equation
Any equation to solutions for a straight line on a coordinate plane
