Module 3 Flashcards
Unit rate
A rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit
Ratio
A comparison of two quantities by division
Equivalent ratios
Ratios that name the same comparison
Constant
A value that doesn’t change
Proportion
An equation that states two ratios are equivalent
Rate
A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units
Rate of change
A ratio that compares the amount of change in a dependent variable to the amount of change in an independent variable
Dependent variable
The output of a function; a variable whose value depends on the value of the input variable
Independent variable
The input of a function; a variable whose values determines the value of the output variable
Constant of proportionality
The constant ratio between two quantities
Constant of variation
The constant “k” in direct variation equations
Proportional relationship
A relationship between two quantities in which the ratio of one quantity to the other quantity is constant
Slope
A measure of the steepness of a line on a graph; the rise divided by run
Direct variation
A relationship written as Y=KX where the data increases or decreases together at a constant rate
Linear equation
An equation whose solutions form a straight line on a coordinate plane
