Differentiate rebellion from coup d’ etat

A

Rebellion is by nature, the taking up of arms by multitudes of people against the government while a coup is a swift attack by members of the military or public officials against the government.

Rebellion’s aim is to overthrow the government and install their own while a coup’s aim is only to weaken or destabilize the government.

Rebellion can only be done through force and violence while a coup can also be done through intimidation, strategy, or stealth.
