You should make sure that it is compatible with the computer system hardware requirements

Use the programs compatibility tab to use settings for the older windows version
Why would windows prompt you to enter a password if you try to install a software application?
this means that only the administrator has user account controls to download applications so they need to enter their password

Turn the windows feature on or off dialogue from programs and features

Try using the repair option in programs and features or reinstalling the program

what is the difference between freeware and open source software?
Open source means that the the programming code used to design the software is also made available.
Freeware means the software product cost nothing to use, but this does not mean that the code is available too or that you can modify the software and distribute it yourself
