MODULE 2: protein secretion in eukaryotic cells Flashcards
stage 1
Transcription occurs in the nucleus and mRNA is copied from DNA and the mRNA leaves the nuclear envelope via a nuclear pore
stage 2
The mRNA travels to the RER and binds to a ribosome as ribosomes are where the protein is synthesised.
stage 3
The RER packages the protein into a vesicle which surrounds the protein
stage 4
The vesicle travels to the Golgi body which package and process the protein into secretory vesicles.
stage 5
The vesicle travels to the plasma membrane where exocytosis occurs in which the vesicle fuses w the plasma membrane and releases the protein
what is a vesicle?
A temporary vacuole that contains proteins and transports them around the cell or out of the cell.
what is a cytoskeleton
The cytoskeleton is a structure that assists in transporting material around the cell, maintains cell shape and supports cell’s organelles and keeps them in position
