Module 2 - Ch 7 - Psychosocial influences on human movement Flashcards
What is the definition of socialization?
The active process of learning and social development that occur in consequence of interacting with one another and learning the “norms” of the social world we live in.
Norms
Rules and behavior, which reflect or embody a culture’s values. They either prescribe a certain type of behavior or forbid it. Norms are always backed by sanctions of one kind or another (e.g. disapproval or punishment)
Self Identity
An ongoing process of personal discovery. The development and establishment of a unique sense of who we are and ‘our relationship to the world around us
Values
Ideas held by individuals or groups about what is desirable, proper, good, or bad. Values will vary between cultures.
Fear vs anxiety
Psychosocial factors that influence a person’s movement
A lot of times fear and anxiety are used interchangeably. The physiological symptoms to each may overlap. -
- fear is a state caused by a stimulus in your environment (a known threat),
- anxiety is an unknown or possible threat; a cognitive component here
For the case study, you would have to read the excerpt and decide if there is any evidence that Jack is experiencing either of those states. Is there some specific thing or person in his environment that seems to be causing him to feel afraid? Is there evidence that he feels anxious about the possibility of a threat or danger? As mentioned on a previous post, look for things supported by the case study, and not all of the possible feelings he could have.
