o What we owe the community
Political
The church isn’t identified with the political community or bound to any political system.
Free Market
Institution of social importance because of its capacity to guarantee effective results in the production of goods and services
• Truly competitive market is effective at:
o Moderating excessive profits of individual businesses
o Responding to consumer’s demands
o Bringing about a more efficient use and conservation of resources
o Rewarding entrepreneurship and innovation
o Making info available so that it is really possible to compare and purchase products in an atmosphere of healthy competition
Principle of Participation
• The development of the person is only brought about through social interaction(working w/ others and interacting with others)
Principle of the common good
• Every aspect of social life must be related to if it is to attain its fullest meaning, stems from the dignity, unity, and equality of all people
Universal Destination of Goods
God intended the earth and all that it contains for the use of human beings and people
Preferential Option for the Poor
• The principle of the universal destination of goods requires that the poor, the marginalized and in all cases those whose living conditions interfere with their proper growth should be the focus of particular concern
The Principle of Subsidiarity
• The principle of subsidiarity states that larger entities should not assume roles and functions of smaller entities unless absolutely necessary
The Purpose of Government
