Module 2 Flashcards
What is a complex sentence?
A complex sentence is an independent clause (a sentence that can stand on its own) with 1 or more dependent clauses added (dependent clauses can’t stand on their own as a sentence).
What is a subordinating conjunction?
A subordinating conjunction is sometimes called “a heart word”. A subordinating conjunction is a word or phrase that links a dependent clause to an independent clause (e.g. after, although, as, because, before, how, if, once, since, than, that, though, till, until, when, where, whether, while)
If a subordinating conjunction comes at the beginning of the sentence - should a comma come at the end of the dependent clause? (e.g Since I was tired, I decided to go to bed)
Yes
If the subordinating conjunction comes in the middle or at the end of a sentence - is a comma required? (e.g. I decided to go to bed since I was tired)

What is a coordinating conjunction?
A conjunction placed between words, phrases, clauses, or sentences of equal rank (e.g FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so - and, but, and or)
