1534 : He discovered the Saint-Lawrence and Gaspe
1535 : He sailed to Montreal
1541/1542 : He returned to Quebec and Montreal, but failed to setup a colony and France lost interests in North America for 70 years.

French : Gave Indians muskets (guns) pots, pans , woollens, new food and introduced then to alcohol.
Indians :
Gave the French snowshoes , canoes , toboggans, herbal , medicines and how to survive in the bush.

Why was the King of France interested In setting up colonies in the 1600’s
- To establish fur-trading posts as furs became very popular in Europe
- The fur brought in big profits and France wanted to capitalize on the fur-trading industry
