Module 2 Flashcards
What is Clark’s Rule?
It is a general rule for calculating a paediatric use based on an adult dose
(Weight of child in lbs x adult dose)/150 = dose for the child
What is BSA in terms of dosing?
BSA (Body Surface Area) can be used to adjust dosage especially in cancer patients that receive chemotherapy
Review formula in Module 3: Special Dosing Considerations
What is infusion time?
It is the time in which a given volume of fluid can be infused into the body via IV
Infusion Time = (Volume of infusion in ml)/(Flow rate in mL/h or mL/min)
What formula is used to calculate rate of flow?
Rate of flow (drops/min)= (Volume infused (mL) x Drip set (drops/mL))/Time (min)
How to calculate infusion rate when given dose?
Infusion rate (mL/h) = (Patient’s wt (kg) x Dose (units/kg/min) x 60)/(Drug concentration (units/mL)
