During the Romantics, most of the focus was on history and emotions. The transcendental was more of a philosophy and way of life and less of an idea. They both focused on simple life and nature.

Reformers thought that education made better citizens and children.

Some Americans supported the abolition movement because of their religious beliefs. They believed it was morally wrong and that African Americans should be equal.
How did northerners and southerners use the economy to support their reasoning for opposing the abolition movement?
Northerners believed that jobs would be taken by freed slaves. Southerners thought that slavery was a necessity to growing good crops and without it, society would crumble.

Speeches and public soundings by former slaves were successful. Literature and anti-slavery clubs as well as petitions to Congress and accounts of slavery abuse were also very successful.

Women wanted to be able control over their wages so they supported the movement in hopes they would be able to own their money.

When helping with the abolitionist movement, they were told not to speak out. Society looked down on women who spoke out.
