What is a firewall?
Partition between the engine powerplant installation and the aircraft
What is the purpose of a firewall?
Isolate the power plant from the engine structure
What are firewalls typically made from?
CRES or high heat-resistant metal
What are the zones an engine can be divided into?
- Fire zone
- Flammable fluid leakage zone
- Dry bay zone
Fire zones as compartments that contain what?
- Ignition sources
- Potential for flammable fluid leakage
What are the purposes of the cowlings?
- Protect the engine and accessories
- Provide streamlining
What cowls are the thrust reversers located in?
C duct cowls
What is the disadvantage of acoustic liners?
Addition of weight and increased fuel consumption
The engine mounts must be designed to allow for what?
Radial and axial thermal expansion
On side mounted engines what beams connect the engine to the fuselage?
Front and rear saddle beams
On side mounted engines, how are the beams connected to the engine mounting points?
Swinging links and thrust trunnions, with a thrust strut connected to the airframe

That they do not chafe against things

Tight bends

Areas where they might be used as handholds or support

So that contact with equipment and structure is avoided
What extra protection can be given to bundles if contact can’t be avoided?
Grommets and chafe strips
To prevent insulation degradation wiring must be routed away from what?
High temperature equipment

So the bundle will twist and not bend
