What is Fibromyalgia? *

A

Chronic condition that causes widespread pain, sleep problems, fatigue, mental and emotional distress
- Abnormal pain processing
- Cannot be cured!! but can be managed

Risk Factors:
- Age
- Co-existing lupus or RA
- Female gender
- Stress or traumatic events
- Repetitive injuries
- Illness
- Family history
- Obesity

- Central sensitization

What Non Drug Measures are Recommended? *

A
  • Aerobic exercise (20-30min 2-3xweek) !!!! and should be used concurrently with any pharm
  • Resistance training
  • CBT
  • Meditative movements such as tai chi or yoga
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Acupuncture
