Module 1.3 - Electrical Circuits Flashcards
What is a voltmeter?
measures potential energy difference across a resistor
it has a high resistance in a parallel to the circuit
it does not draw current from the circuit.
what is an ammeter?
measures the current that flows through a resistor
it is a low resistance device that is placed in a series with a resistor in a circuit
What is the difference between a series and parallel circuit?
A series circuit has whole components on one branch whereas parallel has components on multiple branches.
Why is a voltmeter used in a parallel circuit?
Because throughout a parallel circuit volts stay the same
Why is a ammeter used in a series circuit?
Because throughout a series circuit current stay the same
