Palpation of Urinary Bladder
A
- Empty bladder is not palpable
- Start at kidneys and work down to bladder
- Supine position
- Assess for tension and distension

Palpation of inguinal lymph nodes
A
- “Femoral Triangle” area
- Roll fingers horizontally over the inguinal ligament and vertically over the femoral artery (inner thigh)
- Palpate horizontal and vertical groups of superficial inguinal nodes
Abnormal: Swelling, Tenderness, Pain, Indirect/Direct Inguinal Hernia and Femoral Hernia

Assessment of Bladder output
A
- 1500 mL/day
- Moderate distension and urge to urinate with 200–250 mL
- Assess for discoloration/foul smells as could indicate infection or dehydration

Assessment of Indwelling Urinary Catheter
A
- Monitor for signs and symptoms of catheter UTI
- Risk factors: prolonged catheterization, female gender, diabetes, malnutrition, old age, and impaired immunity
- Date of catheter insertion
- Ensure proper anchor, tubing and bag placement
