the health care aides responsibilities to his team are to:
- Work as member of the health care team and respect all the members of the health care team, despite differing roles, make a valuable contribution to our towards the client’s safe and holistic care

- work within the plan of care developed by the professional members of the team

Ways to effectively communicate amongst members:

Patients in nursing homes
residents here are not able to live at home any longer, but need varying degrees of personal care
Extended care units
Patiens have been hospitalized, but are not ready to return to their homes in the community community. some of them will not be able to return home and I ready for a bed in a personal care home
Clients in community
they help maintain an optimal level of Independence therefore enabling the client to remain in their own home vs institutionalization. HCA in hospitals help elderly people to remain in the community longer with the better quality of life
As a HCA in a day hospital you may provide assistance with:
- bathing
- shaving hair
- care Nail Care
- oral hygiene
- bowel and bladder routines
- and\or other personal care as required
under supervision, the HCA may:
- contribute to the comfort and health of the client (resident or patient) by giving personal care.
a) assist the client to meet his/her need for safety by:
* recognizing and Reporting and/or correcting safety hazards
* using principles of cleanliness and infection control policies and guidelines
b) assist the client to meet his/her need for intellectual stimulation, information and communication by
* participating in specified therapies
* assisting with the orientation of the client to his/her new environment
* answering call bells and asking to nursing staff for assistance as required
* recognizing and reporting unusual appearances and behaviours or particular clients

c) assist the client with positioning, movement, walking and activity by:
- helping the client to turn and rest in a position of comfort and a good body alignment
- adjusting beds, restraints, footrest, etc for the comfort and convenience of clients
- helping the client in and out of bed
- working with nursing staff to help lift or move clients with various lifting devices
- assisting the client with exercises
- helping the clients to walk and/or use special aids- wheelchairs, walkers and canes
d) assist the client in elimination of body waste by:
* helping clients to the bathroom
* providing bedpans urinals and commodes *follwing bladder and bowel training program

e) promote hygiene and maintenance of client’s skin by:
* providing care that will prevent sores or skin breakdown
* assisting the client with (or giving) mouth care *assisting the client with (or give completely) a tub or Bed Bath
* assisting the client with dressing
* giving shampoos
* caring for a nails
* shaving the client
* giving back rubs
* changing bedding (with the client either in or out of bed)

- communicate with members of the nursing team by:
* reporting observations made and care giving to appropriate member of the health care team
* helping plan care at team conferences - function in emergency situations by: *recognizing and reporting the situation
* getting emergency equipment
* assist in carrying out emergency procedures as directed by the nurse in charge - performing skills such as:
* measuring client’s height, weight, temperature, pulse and respiration
* collecting non-sterile specimens of urine, stool and/or sputum
* applying tensor bandages or T. E. D stockings (Thrombo-Embolic Deterrent or anti embolism stockings)
* maintaining medical asepsis

- use and care of equipment appropriately by:
* handling and storing clean and sterile equipment properly
* rinsing equipment after use, as indicated *reporting malfunctions
* respecting and caring for the client’s property
Attitude of a HCA
the attitude of a HCA needs to reflect concernfor the client’s physical welfare and an interest in the client as a human being. A smiling face and a few understanding words can do much to help a depressed or worried person

Horizontal would be supervisor to supervisor. And vertical would be supervisor to HCA
