What does ICT stand for?
Information and Communication Technologies
In the workplace ICT allows us to do what?
- Work wherever we have access to a computer and the internet.
- Communicate better using a variety of different communication formats.
- Store large quantities of data.
- Identify and adapt to changing trends.
- Perform repetitive mechanical actions.
What are examples of how ICT can negatively affect the workplace?
- Constant upgrading.
- Replace many jobs with only a few highly skilled ICT workers.
- ICT employees often work longer hours to meet the expectations of customers
What is the cornerstone of any ICT system?
Computers
What is the information processing cycle?
Take Input ➡️ Process It ➡️ Produce Output
How do you classify computers?
- Speed & Performance of CPU
- Amount & Type of Storage
- Size of memory
- Type of Graphics Card
What are Dedicated Devices?
Devices designed to perform only one specific task.
E.g. Washing machine, Garmin GPS
What are Multipurpose devices?
Multipurpose devices/computers allow us to load software onto them, enabling them to perform a wide range of tasks.
What are some anti-theft strategies for hardware?
- Record the serial numbers.
- Cable locks to chain equipment to a solid object.
- Lockable cabinets (with ventilation) for system units (‘boxes’).
- Motion sensors with an alarm which detects when a computer is moved.
What does UPS stand for?
Uninterruptible Power Supply
