What is hardware
The physical parts of a computer that we touch and see
What is software
Is simply a set of instructions that tells a computer what to do
How do computers work
- They take the input from keyword or mouse
- Do something to it/ process it
- Produce some form of output like on a screen
What is data
-It is unprocessed
Eg. Text, number, images or audio
What is information
-Processed data
What is the information processing cycle
-is the process of input, processing, output and storage
What is a mother board
- is a large circuit board that all the other parts of the computer connect to
- found inside a computer case
- allows all of the parts of the computer to communicate with each other
What does a mouse do
-used to interact with programs on your computer
What is clicking
-resting the cursor on a object and then selecting the object by clicking the left button once
What is double clicking
-quickly clicking the left button twice
What is right clicking
Pressing the right mouse button instead of the left mouse button
What is dragging
-holding down a mouse button and moving the mouse
What is scrolling
-Most mice have a wheel between the two buttons that is used to scroll up and down in a document on the screen
What is a operating system
-it is the most important program on a computer is the program that controls all the activities in the computer
Eg. Windows
What happens when you switch on your computer
- the operating system automatically loads when the computer is switched on called booting up
What is a title bar
This shows the name of the file and program you are working in
What does the close button do
Close the window
What is a tool bar
- a collection of buttons and icons representing a set of related tasks
What are scroll bars
These let you scroll across the window to see any information that may not be visible due to the size of the window
What is logging on
- Gaining access to the programs and data
- using a username and password
What a ribbon
Has commands organized in logical groups on different tabs
What is storage
Used to keep a permanent record of programs and data
What is memory
When we load data files into memory this is temporary and if the power goes off all content of memory is lost
What does a key board allow
Us to type information into the programs that we are using
What do we call a full keyboard
QWERTY
What is a CPU
-Hardware components that perform all calculation and executes instructions
What is a desktop
First basic screen that appears when window is loaded
What is a menu bar
A bar containing a set of commands presented as text
What is ESC
Key on the keyword you can use to cancel an option or get back to where you were
What the home row
They are the anchor keys of the left hand ( ASDF) and the anchor keys of the right (JKL)
What is input
- The process of giving the computer instructions and data
- also used to describe the actual data and instructions themselves
What is maximize
Action which make the size of a window big as possible
What is minimize
Action which will make the size of a window big as possible
What is output
What ever the computer produces to provide us with results of its processing
What are the shortcuts on the desktop
Pictures or icons which have a small curved arrow in the bottom left corner and that provides quick links to things like programs and printers
What is tooltip
- a hint or information that pops ups when resting the cursor on an icon or object
