Specification:
A contractual document used along with construction drawings. Contains detailed written instructions that supplement the set of drawings.

Context: Reading Plans - Bench Mark
A point established by the surveyor on or close to the building site. Used as a reference for determining elevations during the construction of a building.
Context: Reading Plans - Contour Lines:
Imaginary lines on site/plot plan that connect points of the same elevation. They NEVER cross each other.
Context: Reading Plans - Easement
A legal right-of-way provision on another person’s property. (For example the right of a neighbor to build a road, or a public utility company to install gas and water lines on a property.) A property owner cannot build on an area where an easement has been identified.

A drawing giving a view from the front or side of a structure.

The distance from the property line to the front of the building

Physical structures that mark the location of a survey point.

Context: Reading Plans - Topographical survey
An accurate and detailed drawing of a place or region that depicts all the natural and man-made physical features, showing their relative positions and elevations.
Drawing set:
A set of detailed drawings or plans drawn to scale by an architect/engineer showing all of the information/dimensions to build or remodel a structure. Copies of these are distributed, called Blueprints.

Context: Reading Plans - Title Sheet
Normally placed at the beginning of a set of drawings, or at the beginning of a major section of specific drawings. Provides index for the drawings; abbreviations, symbols, and other project data such as location, size of land, etc.
Context: Architectural Drawings - Section Drawings
Shows how a particular feature looks inside or how something is put together internally.
Context: Architectural Drawings - Examples of things you’d find in a section view
Details of construction and info about stairs, walls, chimney, etc. Floor levels in relation to grade, wall thickness at various locations. And anchor and reinforcing steel.

Schedules are tables that describe and specify the various types and sizes of materials used in the construction of a building.
Context: Architectural Drawings - Examples of schedules
Door schedules, Window schedules, finish schedules. All of particular importance to the carpenter.
Context: Architectural Drawings - Structural drawings
Created by a structural engineer and accompany the architects plans. Usually drawn for large structures such as offices or factories.
