What is the difference between anaphylaxis and anaphylactoid reaction?

A

Anaphylaxis occurs only after a patient has been previously exposed at least once to the antigen and is sensitised.

Anaphylactoid occurs following a single, first-time exposure to certain agents in non-sensitised patients.

What are the main immune system disorders?

A

Overactive: allergy, asthma

Autoimmune disorders: rhematoid arthritis, lupus, Type 1 diabetes mellitus

Underactive: HIV, SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disorder), temporary deficiencies such as chemotherapy and glandular fever
