Module #1 - Midterm Flashcards
What does fitness have to do with?
The quantitative measurement of physical or physiological health.
What are the 3 branches of fitness?
Physical fitness, skill-related fitness, and health-related fitness.
What does physical fitness include?
Includes metabolic, morphologic, and bone integrity aspects.
What balance does metabolic fitness maintain?
It maintains balance in blood glucose and insulin levels.
How is metabolic fitness measured?
Healthy body weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose.
What is morphologic fitness?
Healthy body composition in terms of size and mass.
How is morphological fitness measured?
Measured through BMI, waist-to-hip circumferences, etc.
What is bone integrity?
Strength and resilience of bones.
How is bone integrity measured?
Measured through bone mineral density screenings.
What is included in skill-related fitness?
Agility, speed, coordination, balance, power, and reaction time.
What is health-related fitness?
It enables everyday activities with extra energy for emergencies.
What are the 5-components of health-related fitness?
Cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.
What is muscular strength?
Intensity of muscular contractions.
What is muscular endurance?
Ability of muscles to sustain contractions over time.
What does body composition comprise of?
Fat mass and fat-free mass
What are outcome goals?
Focus on end results or achievements
What body processes does metabolism include? What are the two names?
All body processes; includes anabolism and catabolism.
What are process goals?
Short-term processes working toward a goal.
What do performance goals focus on?
Focus on improvement comparisons.
What are objective goals?
Quantitative and easy to measure.
What are subjective goals?
Qualitative and individual-centered.
What are predisposing factors?
Existing conditions influencing behavior.
What are reinforcing factors?
Incentives, support, and encouragement enhancing behavior.
What do task-oriented people do?
Compare goal performance to past performance.
What do ego-oriented people do?
Compare achievements with others.
What are the 6 dimensions of health?
physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, occupational
What are the 6dimensions of wellness?
physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, occupational
What is the self-determination theory?
States that people do things to either pursue pleasure or to avoid
pain.
What is the theory of reasoned action?
people change health
behaviors when perceived a positive outcome from the
change.
What does the transtheoretical model suggest?
Individuals move through five stages of change
What are the 5 stages of the transtheoretical model?
pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance.
