Module 1 Learning Objectives Flashcards
Define population of interest
Collection of sampling units you hope to draw conclusions on (ex. all people that shop in Toronto)
Define statistical population
Collection of all sampling units that could have been in sample (ex. all people in area with email address)
Define sampling unit
Unit being selected at random (ex. email address of person)
Define sample
Collection of sampling units (ex. 72 email responses)
Define observational unit
Scale of our data collection/subject of study (ex. individual person)
Define measurement variable
What we want to measure about observation unit (ex. height)
Define measurement unit
Scale of measurement unit (ex. cm) not applicable if categorical
Which of the five hierarchical scales do you start with?
Sampling unit
List in order from biggest to smallest on the hierarchical?
1) Population of interest
2) Statistical population
3) Sampling unit
4) Sample
5) Observational unit
Can sampling unit and observation unit be the same?

Can population of interest and statistical population be the same?
